Perception

Perception I & II, 2016.
Archival inkjet prints on wood.
21″ x 30″ per diptych.

As a visibly minority, I became aware of how my appearance often contributes to automatic assumptions about my beliefs. Perception I and II (2016) are diptychs in which I depict myself and a friend wearing the hijab to challenge biases and prejudices towards persons of colour and muslim women. These pieces are intended to provoke reflection and raise questions, rather than provide singular responses.
